Japanese Architecture and Art Net Users System

JAANUS is the on-line Dictionary of Japanese Architectural and Art Historical Terminology compiled by Dr. Mary Neighbour Parent.

This dictionary contains approximately 8000 terms related to traditional Japanese architecture and gardens, painting, sculpture and art-historical iconography from approximately the 1st century A.D. to the end of the Edo period (1868).

Sidney D. Gamble Photographs

From 1908 to 1932, Sidney Gamble visited China four times, traveling throughout the country to collect data for social-economic surveys and to photograph urban and rural life, public events, architecture, religious statuary, and the countryside.

The Gamble Collection at Duke University contains approximately 5000 photographs, primarily of China, from between 1917-1932.


Tibet Art Register (TAR): Buddhist Sculptures in Tibet

This website provides digital photographs of the 500 most important Buddhist sculptures in the collections of the Jokhang Tsuglagkhang temple and the Potala palace in Lhasa (PRC). These photographs were taken in Tibet between 1980 and 1997.

Digital photographs can be downloaded free of charge for personal use or for publication.


Nepal Art Register (NAR): Nepalese Stone Sculptures

This website provides digital photographs and detailed bibliographical references of Nepalese Buddhist and Hindu stone sculptures. The photographs were taken between 1965 and 2011. This website will soon provide digital photographs that can be downloaded free of charge for personal use or for publication.

The final website will include as much as 2000 stone sculptures.
